On November 17th, 2005, BEA, IBM, IONA Technologies, Oracle, SAP and Siebel announced an effort to develop new standards and resulting collaborative technologies to simplify how customers develop and implement applications in a Service Oriented Architecture. With these technologies, customers will be able to more easily create new and transform existing IT assets into reusable services that may be rapidly adapted to changing business requirements. Further, these new technologies greatly reduce complexity associated with developing applications by providing a way to unify these services regardless of the programming languages they were written in and the platforms used to run them.

Service Component Architecture
In November 2005, V0.9 specifications for Service Component Architecture were released. These were followed up from July 2006 with a set of specifications at the V0.95 / V0.96 levels. These versions are available from this page. In March 2007, the V1.0 specifications were released and can be found on the Service Component Architecture Specifications page.
